1. Pengertian Simple Past Tense (Nominal)

Simple Past Tense nominal adalah bentuk kalimat lampau tanpa menggunakan verb (kata kerja), tetapi menggunakan to be (was/were) untuk menyatakan keadaan, sifat, posisi, identitas, atau fakta pada waktu yang sudah berlalu.

Contoh ide keadaan:

• dulu sedih,

• dulu di rumah,

• dulu kotor,

• dulu panas, dll.

2. Rumus Simple Past Tense (Nominal)

a. Kalimat Positif (Affirmative)

Subject + was/were + Complement

Contoh:

• I was tired yesterday.

• They were at the library last night.

• She was a new student in 2020.

b. Kalimat Negatif (Negative)

Subject + was/were + not + Complement

Bentuk singkatan:

• was not → wasn’t

• were not → weren’t

• You weren’t in the class last Tuesday.

• He was not my teacher in 2018.

c. Kalimat Tanya (Interrogative)

Was/Were + Subject + Complement + ?

Jawaban Singkat (Short Answers)

• Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.

• Yes, they were. / No, they weren’t.

• Yes, he was. / No, he wasn’t.

3. Fungsi Simple Past Tense Nominal

Digunakan untuk menyatakan:

a. Keadaan di masa lampau

• The weather was very hot yesterday.

b. Keberadaan (di mana seseorang berada)

• They were at the park last weekend.

c. Fakta atau situasi lampau

• My grandfather was a soldier.

d. Identitas di masa lalu

• She was my best friend in elementary school.

e. Sifat / kondisi sebelumnya

• The classroom was dirty before we cleaned it.

4. Keterangan Waktu (Adverbs of Time)

Biasanya memakai kata waktu lampau, seperti:

• yesterday

• last night

• last week

• last month

• last year

• this morning (jika sudah lewat)

• two days ago

• a long time ago

• in 1999 / in 2010

• last Sunday, etc.

Contoh:

• The meeting was last Friday.

• I was in Bandung two days ago.
